Donation News and World Cup 2014

Hi everyone! Hope everyone is having a fantastic Saturday and a wonderful summer so far! Today is the auspicious Hindu festival called “Guru Purnima”, which is dedicated to all our superb teachers, mentors, and guides. “Guru”, stemming from Sanskrit, comes from “gu” meaning darkness and “ru” meaning one who removes our darkness. Thus “guru” is defined by Merriam Webster as: a person who acts as one’s teacher and guide in matters of fundamental intellectual concern. Thanks to all the teachers and instructors out there!

In honor of this holiday and also the fact that thus far, we have helped 28 people gain access to a lifetime supply of clean and fresh water, a new donation link for water.org is up. The link is http://give.water.org/fundraiser/1901/. THANK YOU to everyone who has helped with this cause so far; I am so thrilled to say we have made such a positive impact on our globe. Let’s continue that further! We have until October of this year to help out 10 more people!

Also, if you want to refer to a certain set of videos regarding one language, you can always use the search tool at the top right of the page to search for a specific language. All the posts and videos pertaining to that language will come up. For example, if you want to go over German, just type in “German” in the search tool and all five of the posts relating to German come up.

On another note, tomorrow is the 2014 World Cup Final! For those who don’t know, I am a huge fan of football and the World Cup, and I have especially been supporting Team Germany for many years now! I’m beyond excited that Germany is in the final for tomorrow 🙂 However, one main reason I love watching the World Cup is because it brings people of so many different countries and cultures together. Inevitably, there is much we can notice and learn about languages and linguistics. What I enjoy the most is that just by reading the names of the players on a squad, you can generally guess which country they represent! This is where all the rules we have learned about different languages kick in. If you have been watching the World Cup, hopefully you have been having fun putting these rules into practice too!

Have a great week everyone!
